What is Mirror Site?

If you have ever downloaded file or freeware from internet may you provided with a list of addresses to download the same file. Those are some replicas for the existing site that you can choose to download. Those replica sites are called mirror site. In a common sense mirror site is a copy of a website or set of files hosted at a remote location, with some reason such as the site or files are available from more than one place or server, make it more easy to be accessed and reduce the network traffic on the main server. 

The second reason is to increase the speed with which files or Web sites can be accessed. File hosted in geographically closer server will more quickly to be downloaded.
