What is Octane Number?

Octane number of gasoline indicates the content of carbon chain of C8 (octane) contained therein, similar to the Cetane number for diesel fuel as a measure of fuel quality despite having a different understanding. In the case of combustion, octane rating will determine the fuel ability to not ignite spontaneously in the combustion chamber. Spontaneous ignition means with the compression process without any sparks from spark plugs air and fuel mixture burn by itself. The occurrence of spontaneous combustion is characterized by the occurrence of knocking in the engine and can cause engine damage. Fuel does not burn completely but explode.

The octane number is determined by comparing the characteristics of a gasoline to isooctane (2,2,4-trimethylpentane) and heptane. Isooctane is assigned an octane number of 100. It is a highly branched compound that burns smoothly, with little knock. On the other hand, heptane, chain a straight, unbranched molecule is given an octane rating of zero because of its bad knocking properties.

Pertamina fuel quality is Questionable

Pertamina, the State Owned Oil Company denies that their gasoline products has low fuel quality.  Pertamina President Director, Karen Agustiawan claimed that their fuel products are in accordance with the standards. "Who said we were under a standard gasoline, if it turns out they were wrong I would claim”, she said.

Pertamina Corporate Secretary Toharso said its lowest grade car fuel Premium is produced based on the standards set by the Oil and Gas Directorate General of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department, and that "There are no reports on fuel pump damage due to the quality of Pertamina's Premium came from any party”. The fuel pump damage caused by vehicle users does not use the fuel according to the specifications of his car, which is can be the fuel octane rating.

Why did the Earth getting hotter?

When we noticed, from time to time the earth's temperature was getting hotter and hotter. Why did this happen? That is what we called global warming.  Global warming is the increase in temperature of the earth because of the influence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane. In the normal amount, these gases are useful to maintain the temperature of the earth keep warm. In excessive amounts, these gases will cause the greenhouse effect.

The greenhouse effect can be explained as follows: The sun's rays penetrate the earth's atmosphere, in which greenhouse gases are also located, toward the surface of the earth. Most of the solar energy is absorbed by the earth and causing the Earth's surface temperature increases. Some is reflected back into the atmosphere in the form of infrared rays.

"Barcelona" in the World Cup 2010

As a finalist of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Spain recorded a successful outcome of the entire stage. Never lost during the preliminary stages and defeated  by Switzerland only in the group stage, Vicente Del Bosque team reached the finals to face the Netherlands.

As one of the seeded teams, Spain was not as impressive as the other leading teams such as Brazil and Germany, which is several times to win by more than one goal difference. Spain lost 0-1 against Switzerland, 1-0 win against Portugal, winning 1-0 against Paraguay, 1-0 win against Germany. Ordinary result, but consistent.
